If you’re in the market for a solid mid-range smartphone that doesn’t skimp on features, the Samsung Galaxy A55 delivers.

I spent time with this phone—and compared it to my Google Pixel 7a and OnePlus Nord 3—I must say it holds its ground.

This device offers a high-quality AMOLED display, excellent battery life, and a durable build, all at a budget-friendly price. It’s ideal for those who want a dependable smartphone without breaking the bank.

Samsung Galaxy A55 Features

1. Display

The 6.6-inch Super AMOLED display was one of my favorite aspects of the Samsung Galaxy A55. Whether scrolling through social media or watching YouTube videos, the 120Hz refresh rate delivers smooth visuals.

The HDR10+ support and 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution provide vibrant colors and sharp images, which is something I noticed when comparing it directly to the Google Pixel 7a

2. Camera

The 50MP main camera on the Galaxy A55 offers great clarity in well-lit conditions and performs well in low light due to the optical image stabilization (OIS)

While the Pixel 7a slightly edges out in photo processing and image quality, the A55 holds its own, especially with the versatility of the 12MP ultrawide lens and a dedicated 5MP macro lens

The 32MP selfie camera delivers clear and crisp shots, ideal for video calls and social media updates. Video recording is smooth with 4K support.

3. Battery Life

During my time using the A55, I appreciated the 5000mAh battery, which easily powered through a full day of moderate use. I tested it with a mix of browsing, social media, video streaming, and light gaming, and the phone didn’t disappoint.

While the 25W charging is adequate, competitors like the OnePlus Nord 3 offer faster charging speeds, but the A55's long-lasting battery is a win in this price segment.

4. Performance

With its Exynos 1480 processor and up to 12GB of RAM, the A55 runs smoothly for everyday tasks—whether switching between apps, streaming content, or handling light multitasking.

However, when I compared it to the OnePlus Nord 3 with its MediaTek chipset, the A55 slightly lagged in high-performance gaming. Casual games work fine, but for graphically intense games, you’ll notice some stuttering.

5. Durability and Design

Samsung has done a great job in giving the A55 a premium feel with its Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back and an aluminum frame

The IP67 water and dust resistance is a bonus. It ensures protection from accidental splashes. I’ve used the phone in rainy conditions, and it held up just fine. At 213g, the phone feels sturdy but not too heavy.

6. Software and Longevity

Running Android 14 with One UI 6.1, the A55 offers a clean and intuitive software experience. Samsung promises 4 years of Android updates, which is a major plus compared to other mid-range phones that usually get just a couple of years of support.

Having used Samsung phones before, the One UI continues to be one of the most user-friendly skins in the Android world.

Final Thoughts

The Samsung Galaxy A55 brings a lot to the table for a mid-range phone. Its stunning AMOLED display, reliable cameras, and solid battery life make it a well-rounded option for those seeking value.

Sure, it’s not the fastest for gaming, but if you’re looking for a dependable device that covers all the essentials with a touch of premium features, the A55 is hard to beat. For budget-conscious buyers and tech aficionados, this phone offers great value.
